Mack Trucks Adds Advanced Collision Mitigation to MD Series
Mack Trucks launches Mack Protect on MD Series, providing advanced collision mitigation and pedestrian detection for medium-duty vehicles.
Mack Trucks has introduced Mack Protect, a comprehensive collision mitigation system, to its MD Series medium-duty trucks. The announcement was made at Work Truck Week 2026, March 10 to 13, in Indianapolis.
Mack Protect, originally launched on the heavy-duty Mack Pioneer, brings its active safety capabilities to medium-duty vehicles for the first time. The system integrates Mack-designed radar, camera systems and detection algorithms to help drivers avoid or reduce collisions, including forward- and side-looking pedestrian recognition.
“By bringing Mack Protect to our Mack MD Series, we’re delivering heavy-duty-grade active safety to customers that operate in dense urban and regional environments,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Situational awareness, the detection of pedestrians and automatic emergency braking help our customers more safely navigate when operating in dense urban and regional environments.”
The platform includes forward collision warning (FCW), adaptive cruise control (ACC), automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning (LDW), speed limit sign Identification with overspeed alerts and right-side lane change and blind spot support with pedestrian and bicyclist detection.
Mack explained that FCW uses radar and cameras to identify vehicles, motorcycles, cyclists and pedestrians ahead, alerting drivers with escalating warnings. ACC adjusts speed to maintain safe following distances, while AEB automatically applies brakes if the driver does not respond. LDW monitors lane markings and issues alerts if the truck drifts into another lane. Speed limit sign recognition alerts drivers when they exceed posted limits, and lane-change support expands detection of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians along the passenger side.
“These safety features reflect our commitment to providing customers with technology that supports their drivers while protecting others on the road,” said Alex Lee, senior product manager for Mack vocational and medium duty. “Mack Protect brings premium collision mitigation capability to medium-duty customers who expect heavy-duty Mack-level quality, durability and uptime.”
Mack Protect is now available for the MD Series. More information is available at Mack booth 5321 during Work Truck Week, through local Mack dealers or online.
