United Rentals Launches AI Equipment Recommendation Tool
United Rentals introduces Equipment Agent, an AI-powered tool that helps customers find and compare rental equipment for jobsite projects.
United Rentals has introduced a new AI-powered digital assistant designed to help customers identify equipment for construction and jobsite projects.
The company announced on March 12 that its Equipment Agent provides equipment recommendations based on project requirements. The tool allows users to describe jobsite needs using conversational language and receive suggested equipment options in seconds.
According to United Rentals, the system helps users compare equipment types and review specifications such as capacity, reach, terrain limitations and required accessories.
“The Equipment Agent connects United Rentals’ equipment expertise with our customers' needs,” said Tony Leopold, senior vice president and chief technology and strategy officer at United Rentals. “It replaces traditional searching and filtering with an intuitive, agentic chat experience. Customers using the Equipment Agent are seeing a 70% improvement in finding the right equipment for their projects.”
The AI assistant is part of the company’s expanding digital tools designed to support project planning and equipment management. United Rentals said the tool helps simplify equipment discovery and provide guidance earlier in the project planning process.
The Equipment Agent connects users directly to product pages on the United Rentals website, where customers can review equipment details and move toward reserving equipment.
The system was developed using real customer questions and tested by United Rentals sales teams and equipment specialists.
The company said the tool also aligns with its broader strategy of combining digital tools, connected equipment and data insights to help customers plan projects, operate efficiently and keep jobsites moving.
The Equipment Agent is available through the United Rentals website.
