Protective Readers Address Vision Needs of Aging Construction Workforce
Brass Knuckle safety glasses combine eye protection and magnification for workers with age-related vision loss.
As the U.S. workforce continues to age, vision-related challenges are becoming more common across construction and industrial jobsites. Brass Knuckle has introduced its Read safety glasses to address presbyopia, a condition that affects near vision and typically begins when workers are in their 40s.
Construction workers often rely on close visual tasks such as reading measurements, calibrating equipment, adjusting controls and reviewing documentation. Workers who use traditional reading glasses may remove their safety eyewear to complete these tasks, creating potential safety risks and compliance issues.
The Brass Knuckle Read safety glasses combine protective eyewear with integrated magnification, allowing workers to maintain eye protection while performing close-up tasks. The glasses are available in five diopter strengths — 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 — providing options for varying levels of vision correction.
The eyewear features clear, ANSI-rated polycarbonate lenses with a permanently bonded anti-fog coating. The coating is designed to retain anti-scratch, anti-static and UV protection properties and is intended to remain effective without wearing or washing off.
Brass Knuckle designed the safety glasses as a lighter, less bulky alternative to over-the-glasses protective eyewear. The product is intended for use in construction, manufacturing and other industrial environments where both eye protection and magnification are required.
