Liebherr HS 8300.2 Supports Vulcan Materials’ Florida Operations
Vulcan Materials uses Liebherr HS 8300.2 crawler crane at its Fort Myers quarry to support aggregate production for Florida infrastructure projects.
Vulcan Materials Company is using the Liebherr HS 8300.2 duty cycle crawler crane to support excavation at its Fort Myers quarry, one of the largest in Florida. The site produces aggregates such as crushed stone, sand and gravel that are essential for building and maintaining roads, bridges and foundations across the state.
Vulcan, the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates, selected the HS 8300.2 for its high material handling capacity and ability to operate efficiently in demanding conditions.
“We have a fair amount of similar model Liebherr machines with minor changes, so integrating the HS 8300.2 was a seamless choice,” said Jason Jowers, area operations manager, Florida, Vulcan Materials. “Given the scale and longevity of this mine, any operational downtime can lead to significant costs and disruptions. The Liebherr HS 8300.2 duty cycle crawler crane not only fulfills the project’s technical demands but also upholds the high standards essential for the mine’s overall success.”
The HS 8300.2 is one of the largest duty cycle crawler cranes worldwide. Designed for material handling, it can be operated with dragline buckets and different grabs with large volume capacity. Its steel fabrication is built for extended service life, while the widened cab enhances operator comfort and visibility.
“When we decide which machine to add to our fleet, it is highly based around the required capacity, excavation capabilities and how that machine fits into our business model,” said Kenny Knowles, vice president of operations, Florida & the Bahamas, Vulcan Materials.
The machine also features Liebherr’s Pactronic hybrid drive, which uses surplus energy to increase turnover performance while reducing fuel consumption. This technology supports both productivity and sustainability on site.
“With the Liebherr HS 8300.2 and other innovative technologies, we ensure efficient production that meets the high demands of our customers while minimizing environmental impact,” Knowles said.
Vulcan’s Fort Myers operation supplies critical construction aggregates that support infrastructure across Florida. The materials produced at the quarry are used in highways, bridges, waterworks, ports and buildings ranging from schools and hospitals to manufacturing facilities and data centers.
