The annual Green Truck Summit, a commercial vehicle technology conference held during Work Truck Week, will be renamed Future Truck Summit beginning in 2027.

NTEA – The Work Truck Association announced the change while collaborating with NAFA Fleet Management Association to expand the conference curriculum. The new program will focus on evolving commercial vehicle technologies, including fuels, software, hardware and on-vehicle systems designed to improve efficiency, safety and durability.

The announcement was made by Emily Korns, chair of NTEA’s Education Committee and president of J&J Truck Bodies and Trailers, during the 2026 Green Truck Summit.

NTEA – The Work Truck Association produces Work Truck Week, which takes place annually at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The event includes multiple programs such as Green Truck Summit, The Work Truck Show, the NTEA Annual Meeting, Work Truck Week Ride & Drive and other educational sessions.

Since its debut in 2009 as a single-day conference focused on hybrid vehicles and alternative fuels, Green Truck Summit has gradually expanded its scope to include technologies affecting commercial vehicle sustainability, productivity and efficiency. The 2026 program added sessions focused on data use, connected vehicles and artificial intelligence.

“As we evolve the content, we are also evolving the name to reflect that the Summit has become about much more than alternative fuels,” says Steve Carey. “Future Truck Summit will provide attendees with fresh perspectives and insights into rapidly changing vehicle technology, hardware and fuel types so they can successfully position their businesses to capitalize on the opportunities that will be presented over the next five years and beyond.”

Under the new format, Future Truck Summit will place greater emphasis on vehicle-specific technologies such as sensors, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), lightweight materials, advanced composites and power management.

The conference will continue to be held at the JW Marriott Indianapolis on the Tuesday of Work Truck Week, the day before The Work Truck Show exhibit hall opens. Organizers say the event will maintain its structure of a morning keynote and general sessions followed by afternoon breakout sessions, although the number of breakout sessions is expected to increase.

“The collaboration between NAFA and NTEA will result in an unmatched educational program for anyone involved in the work truck industry,” says Bill Schankel. “Combining our fleet knowledge and experience with NTEA’s deep connections to the manufacturer and upfitter segments of the industry will enable us to create sessions that deliver cutting-edge technical information, real-world applications and actionable steps for fleet managers, upfitters, truck dealers and other commercial vehicle industry professionals.”

The first Future Truck Summit is scheduled for March 9, 2027, with registration expected to open in fall 2026.
