Caterpillar has released the Cat C32B diesel engine, an updated power platform engineered to deliver greater reliability and performance for large off-highway construction equipment.

The 32.1-liter, V-12 engine provides up to 1,200 horsepower (895 kilowatts) for Tier 4 Final and 1,125 horsepower (839 kilowatts) for Stage V, with a higher 1,350-horsepower (1,007-kilowatt) rating for less regulated markets. Torque output reaches as much as 4,548 pound-feet (6,166 newton-meters), meeting the growing power demands of large machines used in construction and infrastructure projects.

“For nearly 20 years, the Cat C32 engine platform has set the standard for premium power and endurance in construction, mining and other industrial applications,” said Steve Ferguson, senior vice president of Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems. “The new Cat C32B builds on this field-proven reputation with a series of upgrades and new technologies that will drive the superior performance of off-highway equipment for years to come.”

Contractors can expect durability upgrades, including a cast-iron block, larger crankshaft and connecting rod journals and a high-capacity oil system designed to improve wear performance. The cylinder head has also been redesigned for better cooling and longer service life.

With compatibility for renewable fuels such as 100% HVO, Caterpillar has positioned the C32B as a flexible solution for both current and future jobsite requirements.
