Caterpillar Updates Cat 140 Motor Grader to Next Generation Platform
Caterpillar unveils the Cat 140 LVR Motor Grader, a next gen model with updated cab design, improved visibility and advanced technology.
Caterpillar announced the launch of the Cat 140 LVR Motor Grader, bringing its popular 140 model onto the company’s next-generation platform. The updated grader is scheduled to hit the market in early 2026.
“Versatility in operation has always been Caterpillar’s strength, and the 140 Motor Grader has been a classic demonstration of that virtue,” said Pablo dos Santos, Caterpillar global product application specialist. “Over the years, customers have shown that the 140’s usefulness and flexibility have few limits. Its frame lends itself to easy transportation, and its power and performance have seen it put to work in everything from snow clearance to grading operations, in addition to its everyday use in roadbuilding and ditching.”
According to Caterpillar, the machine has been especially popular with rental fleets and government contracts, and the move to the new platform is expected to enhance that versatility.
The 140 LVR adopts the same cab design found in the 120 next-generation models. Larger windows improve sightlines to the moldboard and tires, while an integrated rearview camera adds to operator visibility. The camera feed is displayed on a 10-inch touchscreen, which also connects to Cat Grade technology and other next-gen features.
The redesigned cab includes a new seat with additional adjustment options to reduce fatigue and increase comfort. Updates to the seatbelt and safety harness system are also included.
The new motor grader retains the proven design of the 140 while emphasizing low operating costs and fuel efficiency. Centralized service points simplify daily maintenance, and extended service intervals aim to reduce downtime.
Caterpillar reports that more than 40,000 testing hours have already been logged across multiple machines worldwide. Dos Santos noted the 140 LVR provides “a ‘sweet spot’ power-to-weight ratio with excellent fuel consumption rates.”
The new model also supports a range of technology upgrades. These include features such as Cat’s stable blade and the option for fully calibrated 3D systems designed to improve grading accuracy and lower the total cost of ownership.
“It’s exciting to see Caterpillar’s most popular motor grader model joining the Cat 120 Motor Grader receiving next-generation treatment,” dos Santos said. “We expect it will only add to the machine’s popularity.”
Caterpillar’s motor grader history dates back to 1931 with the introduction of the No. 9 Auto Patrol, which used lever and steering wheel controls with a 9-foot moldboard. Today, the company manufactures 13 motor grader models worldwide.
The Cat 140 LVR Motor Grader will be available through Caterpillar dealers beginning in 2026.
