Bigelow Safety has announced the U.S. availability of The Buddie System, a safety alert system designed to provide workers with an additional communication option when hazardous situations develop or normal communication becomes difficult.
The system is intended for construction, industrial, heavy equipment, and other jobsites where workers and equipment operate in proximity. With a pull of the lanyard, a worker can initiate a safety alert signal.
The Buddie System was developed following a near-miss involving experienced riggers Jade Harris and Gary Panagiotidis. During the incident, radio interference prevented a rigger from reaching a crane operator. The experience highlighted a potential communication gap between workers on the ground and equipment operators when normal radio communication is unavailable.
The Buddie System is designed to complement existing jobsite safety practices rather than replace them. Those practices include radios, training, procedures, personal protective equipment, lift planning, and established emergency protocols.
“The arrival of The Buddie System in the U.S. is an important milestone for Bigelow Safety,” said the Bigelow Safety team. “Our goal is to give companies another practical tool that can help strengthen communication, improve situational awareness, and support crews in responding faster when conditions suddenly change.”
The company said the system is intended to provide an additional communication layer for situations requiring immediate action.
Potential applications include construction and industrial environments, as well as jobsites involving heavy equipment activity.
Bigelow Safety, the U.S. distributor of The Buddie System, said U.S. inventory is now available. Customers can purchase the system through Bigelow Safety or schedule live demonstrations to evaluate its operation and discuss potential applications.
