JLG Parent Oshkosh Invests in Nextera Robotics to Advance Connected Job Sites
Oshkosh invests in Nextera Robotics to support future AI, autonomy, and connected equipment applications for construction jobsites.
Oshkosh Corporation, parent company of JLG Industries, has announced a strategic equity investment in Nextera Robotics to support the development of technologies for connected and autonomous construction jobsites.
According to Oshkosh, the investment aligns with its long-term vision for the "job site of the future" by exploring future applications that combine connected equipment, artificial intelligence, and autonomous technologies.
Nextera Robotics develops autonomous systems that use visual AI and robotics to create updated digital maps of active construction sites. These digital representations are designed to provide project teams with information about project progress, quality and safety, helping identify issues earlier, and support decision-making during construction.
"Our investment in Nextera is a confirmation of our belief in their technology, and our partnership will help Nextera accelerate its mission to connect the construction job site,” says Mahesh Narang, executive vice president, Oshkosh Corporation, and president, Oshkosh Access segment.
As part of the partnership, JLG will support Nextera's commercialization efforts through customer engagement, field validation, and application expertise. Oshkosh said Nextera's technology platform complements JLG's technology roadmap and could expand how connected equipment creates value on construction jobsites.
"Nextera has developed unique technology across visual image recognition using AI, Bluetooth mesh technology, and use cases for jobsite autonomy," says Shashank Bhatia, chief technology officer, Oshkosh Access segment. “We will explore using these technologies in future JLG products to advance our strategy of developing products for the job site of the future."
The companies said the partnership is intended to support future product development and the continued advancement of connected construction technologies.
