EquipmentShare and Cummins Plan 1 GW Mobile Power Fleet
EquipmentShare and Cummins announce a multiyear agreement to expand natural gas mobile power capacity to 1 GW across the U.S.
EquipmentShare and Cummins have entered into a multiyear fleet agreement that is expected to expand EquipmentShare’s natural gas power generation capacity to 1 gigawatt. The companies announced the agreement Sept. 29, saying the expanded fleet will support major energy and infrastructure projects across the United States.
The agreement makes EquipmentShare a rental and distribution channel for Cummins power generation products. EquipmentShare said the investment will support temporary power, microgrid, and battery energy storage solutions for infrastructure projects.
The planned fleet expansion comes as electricity demand increases alongside industrial development and infrastructure projects. EquipmentShare cited North American Electric Reliability Corporation projections that U.S. peak electricity demand could increase by more than 220 gigawatts over the next decade.
"Combining Cummins' proven leadership in reliable, mission-critical power solutions with EquipmentShare's technology-driven distribution platform allows us to bring a gigawatt of resilient energy capacity online to high-impact jobsites when and where they need it most," said Jabbok Schlacks, founder and CEO of EquipmentShare.
The agreement includes Cummins power generation equipment, including the C1400N6C, a 60-hertz continuous lean-burn gas generator set capable of producing between 1,400 and 1,750 kilovolt-amperes of power.
EquipmentShare said it plans to use existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure where available and supplement those supplies with virtual pipeline logistics for off-grid locations. The company said the approach is intended to provide power across different types of jobsites and terrain.
EquipmentShare also said its natural gas-based power strategy can reduce total energy costs for contractors by 50% to 80% compared with traditional mobile power. That figure is a company claim rather than an independently verified estimate.
“We’re pleased to support EquipmentShare as they expand their power fleet with Cummins solutions,” said Susan Cleaver, vice president, global power generation at Cummins. “This investment highlights the ongoing need for dependable power solutions, and we’re proud to work with customers and distributors to help meet those needs.”
The companies did not provide a timeline for reaching the planned 1-gigawatt capacity in the announcement.
