Contractors Share Key Trends in VMAC’s 2025 Industry Report
Contractors weigh in on fleet size, CFM needs, tool use and business concerns in VMAC’s 2025 State of the Industry report.
VMAC released its 2025 State of the Mobile Compressed Air Industry Report, drawing on responses from professionals across multiple industries, including construction, equipment repair, utilities, agriculture and natural resources.
Construction remains a strong focus of the report, accounting for 38% of all responses. The findings show that most companies operate small, young fleets — 77% of service vehicles are less than ten years old, and 74% of companies use just one to five trucks.
Compressed air tools continue to be widely used, with 83% of respondents relying on impact wrenches and 81% using drills. Only 5% of professionals reported not using any air tools. Rotary screw compressors remain the dominant choice due to their compact size and strong performance. When comparing compressor types, gas-engine above-deck models were preferred by 36% of respondents, just slightly ahead of UNDERHOOD systems at 32%.
The majority of professionals — over 79% — require less than 100 CFM, even in sectors with heavy tool usage. Barriers to electric vehicle adoption are rising, with 67% citing limited range, 59% citing a lack of charging infrastructure and 55% noting long charge times.
The report also outlines business concerns. Skilled labor shortages topped the list at 58%, followed by tariffs on imports (49%) and concerns about a slowing economy (48%). Despite these challenges, more than 80% of respondents expect conditions to remain stable or improve.
VMAC notes that the input from industry professionals helps provide practical data to guide business decisions across mobile service sectors.
