Caterpillar Inc. has launched a workforce development initiative in Texas with an initial investment of up to $5 million as part of its five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative.

The funding is intended to help prepare workers for careers in advanced manufacturing and industry technician roles by supporting workforce training and skills development programs.

The company said the initiative will focus on reducing financial barriers to training, identifying the skills needed for future manufacturing jobs and strengthening career pathways for students entering the manufacturing workforce.

"Caterpillar believes building a strong workforce starts with investing in people and helping them develop the skills needed to be successful," said Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar's chief human resources officer. "Texas is a manufacturing powerhouse and a vital hub for innovation. Through this pledge, we're capitalizing on those strengths and preparing Texans for the jobs of today and the advanced technology and manufacturing careers of tomorrow."

Caterpillar selected Texas because of its manufacturing presence in the state. The company employs 6,630 people across its Irving headquarters and 17 facilities, including its engine manufacturing facility in Seguin, where the announcement was made.

To support the initiative, Caterpillar is working with Texas State Technical College, the Manufacturing Institute and local partners such as the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.

The Texas announcement marks the second state launch under Caterpillar's national workforce initiative.
