Miron Construction Co., Inc. said it is adopting a new Type II safety helmet to enhance the protection for its employees, subcontractors and partners, the company said in a release.
The new helmets are made by Studson, an industrial safety helmet manufacturer, and will be rolled out over the next two weeks to replace all traditional hard hats across its operations.
“We must take measures into our own hands to protect the lives of every member of Team Miron and anyone who crosses paths with us,” David G. Voss, Jr., Miron’s president and CEO, said in a statement.
Effective July 1, 2024, all Miron employees will be required to transition from Type I hard hats to Type II safety helmets when entering all Miron project sites.
The decision follows Miron's 2023 pilot program where various models of Type II safety helmets were evaluated. After testing by employees, Miron selected the SHK-1 vented varieties.
The helmets integrate new technologies, such as Koroyd welded polymer tubes, the helmets offer enhanced shock absorption capabilities compared to materials currently used in helmets like EPS foam. The helmet’s cellular open structure design helps improve heat dissipation and ventilation along with what Studson calls Twiceme technology, allowing individual workers to upload critical health data for rapid access by first responders in emergencies.
Miron, based in Neenah, Wis. and is a national preconstruction, construction management, design-build and general contracting firm.
