<dc:subject>New Construction Equipment</dc:subject>

Equipped with a 99hp Kubota V3800 engine this, tractor provides impressive cutting power and traction capabilities for all job conditions.
<img width="160" height="119" align="left" src="http://www.contractorshotline.com/blog/images/articles/20120131171132304_1.jpg" alt="">

Though similar to the original FTX100 this machine boasts a heavier designed undercarriage. The FTX100 LGP offers both 16” and 20” track shoe options in single or triple grouser. These options allow the contractor to outfit the machine for rough terrain or soft ground conditions where a light footprint or reduced ground disturbance is important.

The 20” wide track option on the FTX100 LGP provides 4.4 psi ground pressure. Added value features on this purpose built tractor are ground clearance, tractive effort and durability. With the standard quick attach mounting system the FTX100 LGP can be equipped to utilize several forestry and construction attachments. Compact size and a weight of 14,950 lbs. allow for easy transport with mid-sized trucks.

Enhanced design, reliable power, attachment versatility and rugged durability make the FTX100 LGP the right choice for R.O.W. clearing, site prep and many other forestry applications.

The MHL350 D features a wide undercarriage design with large outrigger cylinders and wide stabilizer support beams for greater lifting capabilities and productivity.
<img width="160" height="107" align="left" src="http://www.contractorshotline.com/blog/images/articles/20120126071136815_1.jpg" alt="">

The MHL350 D provides optimal lifting capabilities, fast cycle times and a hydraulically height-adjustable cab up to an 18.4 ft. (5.6 m) maximum eye level with easily accessible operator controls and on-screen color display. The MHL350 D features a wide undercarriage design with large outrigger cylinders and wide stabilizer support beams for greater lifting capabilities and productivity, allowing the machine to move more material in the same period of time. The machine’s maximum 78,265-lb. (35,500 kg) operating weight, standard maximum reach of 52 ft. (16 m) and boom design with optimized kinematics delivers lifting capacities across the full operating range.

Designed to provide strong swing torque, the MLH350 D is quickly brought up to full turning speed for enhanced productivity. As an added benefit, the double-row slew ring design enhances machine durability and slew ring reliability. With a maximum hydraulic capacity of 169 gal./min. (640 L/min), the efficient dual-circuit hydraulic system delivers smooth, precise handling and faster working cycles to maximize profit potential. The system employs a dual hydraulic pump design with one circuit focused on stick movements and the other serving slewing along with other machine functions. This enables separate, synchronized operation while proportionally feeding the precise amounts of oil to the components in use, rather than having a single oil flow to all parts in the entire system, for lower operating costs, according to the manufacturer.

Inside the MHL350 D’s cab environment, ergonomic dual joystick controls are configured specifically for material handling operations, with operator comfort and flexibility in mind. To maximize operating efficiency, buttons are conveniently grouped on the left- and right-hand joysticks: horn, turn signals, magnet operation and slewing brake functions on the left; and the right joystick control incorporates grapple slewing and pressure boost functions, while offering the flexibility to expand with optional functions tailored to individual job-site requirements and working conditions.

Designed to enhance comfortable and productive material handling, the control panel features a push-button keypad with LED indicators for activation of machine functions. Part of the wholly integrated cab console, the newly designed keypad allows quick access to critical operating functions such as the parking brake and swing lock. A new multi-function control button has been added to the control system and can be turned to adjust engine speed or used to navigate and select display menu functions.

The MHL350 D is powered by a fuel efficient 198 hp (148 kW) 6-cylinder turbocharged and water-cooled diesel engine with direct common-rail fuel injection and emissions values meeting federal Tier III and Com III environmental standards.

The MHL350 D is available with 52 ft. (16 m), 49 ft. (15 m) or 46 ft. (14 m) maximum reach options, so the machine can be configured for a variety of applications from working inland at a recycling yard to loading and unloading barges along the river. The machine has the flexibility to accept a variety of attachments — from a grapple or magnet for handling scrap metal to a clamshell bucket for raw materials — further enhancing machine adaptability to job-site demands.

Other standard features include:

• Separate engine and hydraulic oil-cooling systems with large surface area design to maximize cooling efficiency and uptime

• Excellent cooling performance with quieter operation

• Hydrostatically driven, thermostatically controlled oil cooling fan

• Inverted mounting of hydraulic boom cylinders to minimize exposure to debris and moisture

Started in 1961 with a partnership between Walker Miller and Ken Herold, Miller eventually bought Herold out and the company has continued within the family.
<img width="160" height="104" align="left" src="http://www.contractorshotline.com/blog/images/articles/20120126065640911_1.jpg" alt="">

Walker’s daughter Connie currently serves as company president, as she has since 1992. A full-line Wacker Neuson dealer, Walker Miller also is certified with the state of Florida, the city of Orlando, Orange County and WBENC as a woman owned business.

As part of the celebration of the golden anniversary of Walker Miller’s founding, the company held a joint party with Wacker Neuson, which brought its “On the Road” campaign to join the festivities. The 53-ft. trailer arrived complete with all the latest Wacker Neuson products and expert representatives ready to show guests the how-to’s, what’s and why’s.

“On the Road,” was first tried out in 1957 by Hermann Wacker driving the industry’s first rammer in his family station wagon, and will be hitting the road throughout 2012, all across North America.

“They are taking this ‘Road Show’ to approximately 15 dealers in the U.S. before they go to the World of Concrete in Las Vegas next year. We had great barbecue for lunch and approximately 150 people attended the party. We had a lot of fun. It was a nice party. We sincerely appreciate all the hard work from the Wacker Neuson team. They did a great job,” Connie Miller said.

Walker Miller has won a number of awards, including a 2009 Orlando Business Journal’s Golden 100 Privately Held Companies award and numerous others as Outstanding Dealers from Wacker Neuson and Multiquip.

‘When Dad started the company in 1961 he established the motto of ‘Service is Our Best Salesman.’ That has been our goal, to provide excellent service to the contractors and municipalities throughout the state of Florida.” Connie stated.

Walker Miller has 14 full- time and two part-time employees, most of whom have been with the company more than ten years and some more than 20 years.

“Each of our employees has experience and expertise in their specific jobs to assist our customers in their product needs,” said Connie. “Our goal is to provide the best products and the best service for our customers.”

The acquisition brings Volvo Rents’ South Carolina presence to a total of four rental centers.
Continuing to expand its footprint in various markets across the country, Volvo Rents has acquired Blue Eagle Equipment, a three-store equipment rental company based in South Carolina, with stores in Columbia, Greenville and Spartanburg.

“We’re tremendously excited to see last year’s success continue into the New Year,” said Michael Crouch, vice president of business development of Volvo Rents, noting the company’s surge of nearly 50 pick-ups since the beginning of 2011.

“As the American economy, and particularly the construction equipment rental industry, continues to make a significant shift from buying to renting, we find ourselves in great position for continued growth.”

In addition to Volvo Rents’ expanding line of Volvo compact equipment — such as backhoe and skid steer loaders, compact wheel loaders, compact excavators and compaction equipment – the rental centers carry a comprehensive line of essential equipment and tools for the construction, commercial, industrial and homeowner markets. The focus is on daily, weekly and monthly rentals.

“Volvo Rents’ strong national presence and brand recognition made our decision to become part of the company’s network of stores an easy one,” said Robert Griffin, a 26-year veteran of the construction equipment rental industry who founded Blue Eagle Equipment in 2004.

“Joining the Volvo Rents culture of customer care and commitment to local decision-making offers great opportunities for our team members.”

Griffin will remain active with the operations/management of all three locations as general manager. All 19 of his employees also will stay on to run the stores.

While store hours will be Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the company offers 24-hour service, every day of the week.

<dc:subject>Industry Trade Shows</dc:subject>

The 2012 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas — the largest international tradeshow dedicated to the commercial concrete and masonry construction industries — will serve as the backdrop for the Case North American Triple Threat Rodeo Championship.

Case will host the event at its outdoor exhibit in the Gold Lot directly across from the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall.

Nearly 60 equipment operators in the United States and Canada will compete on Jan. 24 for the grand prize combo of a new Case TR270 compact track loader and a Towmaster trailer for the winner’s sponsoring company and a new Dodge Ram 2500SLT truck for the winner. The total value of all prizes exceeds $140,000.

“The Case Triple Threat Rodeo gives the best equipment operators in North America a chance to show off the skills they use every day on the job,” said Rob Marringa, Case brand marketing manager. “Each rodeo event requires the competitors to demonstrate their mastery of a variety of equipment operations, in terms of both speed and accuracy.”

From a field of more than 1,500 participants who competed in Case Triple Threat Rodeo events across the United States and Canada this year, the winners of the 56 local rodeo events each received $500 in cash and Case gear and qualified to compete at the championship event.

Attracting more than 10,000 visitors, the local dealer events proved successful in terms of competitors, overall attendance and fundraising efforts in support of Habitat for Humanity affiliates.

World of Concrete attendees are invited to visit the Case Triple Threat Rodeo course to compete in a daily “Sasquatch Challenge” compact excavator skills event, sponsored by Case and Jack Link’s Beef Jerky, to win a Case parts locker loaded with $3,500 worth of Jack Link’s Beef Jerky products. The famous Jack Link’s “Sasquatch” advertising character will be at each day’s event — Jan. 24 through 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Jan. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Marringa said Case also will welcome any licensed equipment operator attending the World of Concrete show to attempt completing the entire Triple Threat Rodeo course, which will be open on Jan. 25 and 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Jan 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Case will make a corporate contribution of $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas at the championship event, one year after kicking off the Triple Threat Rodeo program with an identical $5,000 donation. In addition, each participating Case dealership made a donation to its local Habitat affiliate, which brings the total raised during this program for Habitat affiliates to $51,726. Combined with funds raised through earlier equipment rodeos and other company and dealer events, Case and its dealers have contributed an aggregate total of approximately $250,000 to local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.

“Case and our dealers share a commitment to support the communities in which we do business,” Marringa said. “We are proud of the many ways in which our company, employees and dealers have responded to community needs over the years.”

Heavy Equipment Users Recycle Used Motor Oil

<dc:subject>Industry News</dc:subject>

When you’re maintaining a fleet of excavators, tri-axle trucks and bulldozers, you’ve got a lot of used motor oil on your hands.
At Markowski Excavating, Inc. in Vermont, more than 60,000 gallons of used-oil have been recycled using their Clean Burn CB5000 unit during the past 12 years.

“This large volume used-oil furnace is a workhorse that has paid for itself five times over since we installed it,” says David Markowski, vice president of Markowski Excavating. “We do residential, commercial and industrial site development, clearing, grading and construction. Our fleet works hard and has to be kept in top shape. That means we’re constantly changing the oil in the vehicles. If we were to pay to transport that used-oil away, we’d pay thousands of dollars. Instead, the Clean Burn unit saves us thousands of dollars each year.”

In Bradford, Ohio, Dick Lavy Trucking offers a 200+ vehicle fleet that operates throughout the eastern half of the United States. The company provides trailer pools, long distance shipping, and fast reliable service. According to Dick Lavy, one of the essential aspects that keep his trucks on the road is constant maintenance.

“Our fleet maintenance efforts result in thousands of gallons of used motor oil each year,” says Lavy, president of Dick Lavy
Trucking. “We rely on our two Clean Burn furnaces to recycle that used-oil and provide free heat to our maintenance shop. We’ve found the true benefits of this furnace are in savings from having the used-oil transported away for disposal while saving us on the headaches associated with used-oil liability and trucking fees. For us, the Clean Burn furnaces have been a ‘win-win’ situation.”

Clean Burn manufactures two types of used-oil furnaces for different sized operations including the Low Profile Used-Oil Furnaces (Models CB-1750, CB-2500 and CB-3250) and the Large Volume Used-Oil Furnaces (Models CB-3500 and CB-5000). The company also produces Used-Oil Coil Tube Boilers (CB-200-CTB, CB-350-CTB and CB-500-CTB) that recycle used-oil into hot water technology for use in car washes, baseboard and in-floor heating, and ice melt applications.

The company’s Used-Oil Recycling Center works in tandem with Clean Burn used-oil furnaces and is a self-contained, on-site recycling and heating system that allows businesses to store and burn used-oil conveniently and efficiently.

There are 90,000 Clean Burn functional furnaces and boilers located throughout the world that burn approximately 120 million gallons of used-oil each year on-site, at the point of generation. This volume of used-oil would otherwise be transported on highway systems and pose a considerable risk to spills and/or contamination to the environment.

<img width="160" height="96" align="left" src="http://www.contractorshotline.com/blog/images/articles/20120116163108840_1.jpg" alt="">

Clean Burn holds numerous industry certifications and works with the U.S. government, the Environmental Protection Agency and various associations to help coordinate the establishment of standards and regulations related to heat recovery and recycling efforts involving used motor oils.
